Nepal’s Prime Minister, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, also known as Prachanda (`The Fierce One’), came to power in August 2008 following his party’s success in the country’s first-ever Constituent Assembly elections. Chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) and leader of its People’s Liberation Army, he led a decade-long People’s War (1996-2006) with the goals of ending Nepal’s monarchy and creating a new federal republic.

Lima 12.09.08 El diario limeño El Correo, en su edicion de Ayacucho, informa de un nuevo enfrentamiento entre tropas del ejercito y efectivos del maoísta EPL.Este nuevo combate se produjo al emboscar efectivos guerrilleros a una patrulla militar del batallón antisubversivo Nº 42 de Pichari que realizaba un ratrillaje. Un soldado resulto gravemente herido en la lucha que se prolongo por espacio de una hora, utilizando ambos contendientes armas de largo alcanze y automaticas.

Before the democratic period we had identified three fundamental tasks for our party. Many comrades feel that in the new period we need to redefine these tasks. Although a democratic government has come into place, this is as yet only a political change (a change in the government). It is not a social revolution (a change in the structure of the state or economy). Hence, the tasks of the bourgeois-democrati c revolution have only just begun. RANCHI: Maoists blew up a police jeep on Saturday by triggering a landmine that killed 11 cops near Burudih dam in Ghatshila area of East Singhbhum district in Jharkhand. Those killed included a sub-inspector, three havildars, six constables and the jeep driver.

Jharkhand Police spokesperson S N Pradhan said the team led by Digha police picket in-charge sub-inspector Ravi Kant Sinha was returning after a long-range patrol of the jungle near the dam around 1.30pm.
