An old story… that may still be useful?

Back in 1940, Greece was suffering under the fascist dictatorship of Metaxas, who came in power in 1936 thanks to a military coup. The dictatorship of Metaxas suppressed all the democratic and social rights and managed to almost completely annihilate the Communist Party of Greece, including its undergound organizations. Thousands of communists, but also democrats, were assassinated, tortured, imprisoned and exiled by the dictatorship of Metaxas.

Malkangiri (Monday, 28th January 2008): Maoists triggerred a blast at a new jail building which was under construction at MV-79, about 60 km from here early on Monday, causing substantial damage to it.

There was no injury due to the explosion as the building was still under construction.

There was nobody inside the structure when the blast took place in the early hours.

The building, however, suffered considerable damage as a major portion of the structure collapsed under the impact of the blast.

As a precautionary measure, Orissa’s borders with Maoist influence Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh have been sealed after the incident to prevent movement of maoists from one state to another.

The struggle to establish a Democratic Republic on Nepal has reached a decisive stage. As the polarization between the republicans and the monarchists has sharpened there has also been an increase in cross-border instead of curbing the activities of criminal gangs from Bihar and UP has apparently encouraged them. The involvement of notorious politicians such as Anand Mohan Singhm Dadan Pahalwan, Shakuni Chowdhury in the in the Gaur Massacre on March 21, 200 in which 28 Maoist supportersj were killed shows how mercenaries are being recruited. Introduction
This document summarises the first stage of an ongoing debate concerning the correct Maoist line on resistance to imperialist invasion. The debate began following an article by Sunsara Taylor in ‘Revolution’ the paper of the Revolutionary Communist Party (USA) entitled ‘’U.S. Imperialism, Islamic Fundamentalism. ..and the Need for Another Way.’ published on June 10th 2007 . This itself was a reply to an article by two American Trotskyists in the American Socialist Workers Party entitled ‘Standing Up To Islamophobia’ . Sunsara here opposed the tendency of some on the left to give support to the current Iranian regime as a response to threats by the US to attack Iran. (more…)

Benazir Bhutto, the former prime minister of Pakistan who had recently returned from exile to take part in elections, was assassinated leaving a political rally at Rawalpindi 27 December. She had escaped an earlier attempt hours after her return on 18 October. The government of President Pervez Musharraf immediately accused Baitullah Mehsud, a tribal military commander in the North West of the country allegedly close to Al-Qaeda, of organizing her assassination. Within hours after her killing, before any details were known, US President George Bush backed up that claim with a statement blaming anti-regime “extremists”. He phoned Musharraf to express continued American support for his rule. (more…)
