Press Release
The decisions taken by the meeting of prominent leaders of the seven political parties
held today in the Prime Minister’s residence at Baluatar are as follows:
87 honorable members of legislature including that of C P N (Maoist) submitted a special petition to the Prime Minister on September 28, 2007 which has caused such a situation that without taking decision on the issues of declaring the republic and proportional election system from the special session it is not possible to go to the election stipulated for November 22, 2007 and it is decided to request the election commission to suspend all the election programme which was scheduled for November 22, 2007 and to make a request to the Honorable Prime Minister to take initiative.
We want to reiterate that the understanding and interaction among the political parties is inevitable for peace, democracy and the election of constituent assembly. We realize that it is our necessity and compulsion to move forward by making concrete understanding among the forces of Comprehensive Peace Accord in order to bring the peace process to meaningful conclusion. It is decided to make a request to the Nepal government to declare the fresh date of constituent assembly immediately on the basis of agreement of the seven political parties being active in this direction.
We express our regret to the political parties, civil society and all brothers and sisters who were waiting for the election of constituent assembly to be held on coming November 22 and express our commitment to hold the election at the earliest date.
We make a hearty request to all our well wisher friendly countries, united nation as well as international community and organizations and institutions for their continuous support to the peace process, progress of democracy and election of the constituent assembly.
