Kantipur Report
KATHMANDU, May 25 - The Young Communist League (YCL), youth wing of the CPN (Maoist), said it would stop recruitment of Gurkha soldiers into the British Armed Forces at the earliest.
Following its central committee meeting that continued for three days in Kathmandu, the YCL said it would seek alternative employment opportunities and stop the employment of Nepalis in the British Army.
“It is necessary to make our youth more independent, and generate employment in our own country,” said YCL chairman Ganeshman Pun.
Speaking at a press meet organized here Thursday, Pun added, “The YCL will continue its people-centric activities.”
In a 14-point decision, the YCL also strongly criticized American ambassador James F Moriarty for his remarks on Nepal. “Moriarty has trespassed diplomatic norms and interfered in our national affair,” said the YCL in a statement issued after the meeting.
While not mentioning particular parties by name, the YCL said that status quoists and regressive forces have accused it of creating anarchy in the country. It, however, said its cadres have made some mistakes while carrying out their activities. “We are probing those incidents and are taking action against the guilty,” the YCL added in its statement.
The YCL has also demanded strong action against those involved in the Gaur carnage in March in which 28 Maoist cadres were killed by cadres of the Madhesi People’s Rights Forum (MPRF).
The YCL also said it would intensify nation-wide activity for a federal democratic republic. “We will continue to bring out posters and publications as part of sensitizing people for a federal democratic republic,” Pun said.
During the central committee meeting, Maoist Chairman Prachanda had directed YCL cadres to exercise caution while carrying out their activities.
Meanwhile the British government has set up the British Gurkha recruitment center in Dharan, Sunsari district for the recruitment in the eastern region.
